Before becoming a full-time photographer, Jeryc Garcia was an award-winning advertising creative and the founding editor of the Philippine edition of Rodale's Men's Health magazine. He went to college hoping to become a journalist or screenwriter, but his interest soon shifted toward photography and cinematography after doing camerawork on a number of school projects. After graduation, not finding any mentors to show him how to improve his craft, he turned to the works of the photographers he admired, as well as old issues of Popular Photography and American Photo. In 2002, eight years after receiving his first byline as a writer, he is finally also credited as a photographer in a local adventure magazine. Jeryc's images have appeared in the pages of Fortune magazine, Men's Health, Cosmopolitan, Real Living, Weekend Warrior, Petron Rover, and Colors Philippines Travel Guide, among others. His work has received positive feedback from the likes of National Geographic and Magnum photographer David Alan Harvey. In 2007, his photographs were showcased at the Angkor Photo Festival in Siem Reap, Cambodia and at the PDN PhotoPlus Expo in New York City. Recently, he was featured by ABS-CBN's Metroactive magazine and has been invited to exhibit his photos online at Photojournale.com, a website that showcases photo documentary work from around the world. Jeryc is currently based in Manila, the Philippines. |
